How These Numbers Compare

Published 2026 cost guides converge on a fairly consistent picture: a freelance custom build runs roughly $1,500 to $8,000, a basic five-to-eight page site lands between $2,500 and $7,000 from a freelancer and $5,000 to $15,000 from an agency, and the Clutch 2026 survey found 61% of small business buyers spent under $10,000 on their most recent project. Our comparison figures are drawn from the freelance and small-studio end of that range rather than the agency end, because that is the market we are actually in. Quoting agency numbers would produce a bigger headline saving off a comparison that does not apply.

What the Price Does Not Cover

Every website carries costs after launch, whoever builds it: hosting, the domain renewal, and keeping the thing patched. Those sit outside a build price by nature, not as a hidden extra, and any quote that appears to include them forever is quietly pricing them in somewhere. Ongoing patching is what our maintenance service is for, and it is optional — the site is yours, so you can host and maintain it wherever you like. Logo design, stock photography licensing and copywriting beyond the agreed scope are also outside the package, and each service page lists its own exclusions plainly.

When You Should Spend More Than We Charge

There are projects these packages are the wrong answer for, and we would rather say so here than halfway through one. A large catalogue with complex variants, a booking system that has to talk to software you already run, a customer portal, anything with real application logic behind it — those need a scoped quote, and sometimes a specialist rather than us. The same goes for a brand that does not exist yet: a site built around a placeholder identity usually gets rebuilt once the real one arrives. Tell us what the project actually is and we will say which of those it is.

And Afterwards

Every package includes a post-launch support period — 30 days on Starter, 90 on Premium and E-Commerce. After that, keeping a site patched, backed up and monitored is ongoing work, and we price it in the open rather than leaving it as a vague "optional plan": maintenance plans start at $79 a month, monthly, with no minimum term. Nothing obliges you to take one — the site is yours and you can maintain it anywhere.

How Buying Actually Works

There is no buy button on this site, and that is deliberate. Custom work priced before anyone has seen the scope is a price one of us ends up regretting, so the order is: you describe the project, we come back with questions, the scope goes in writing, and only then does an invoice follow. Invoices are sent by email and settled by PayPal or bank transfer, with other methods available on request. A deposit starts the work and the balance falls due on completion — there is no subscription, no lock-in and nothing that auto-renews.

How to Compare This to Any Other Quote

Not on the number. Two quotes at the same price routinely contain different amounts of work, and a cheaper one is sometimes the more complete one. Ask each supplier the same three things: what exactly is in scope, who owns the files and the code when it is finished, and what happens after launch. Our answers are on this page and in the comparison table below. If you want the longer version of this argument, the blog post on what a small business website should really cost works through it properly, and there is a companion piece on the difference between cheap and affordable.
